One who belonged to the nation Israel was not necessarily a saint, and, though a bona fide member of the nation both in its religious and national characteristics, he could in no sense claim the blessings of salvation from sin or the promises of the future grace of God. The body of Christ as it is presented in the New Testament is that which is joined to Christ in a living union. This union is effected by the baptism of the Spirit as stated in 1 Corinthians
